Even with events, the days of casual mining and securing a bit of income on the side as a new players are over.
Normal pickaxe should allow to mine ALL normal veins and the new pickaxes to only be useful for the overcharged veins. Right now, if you want to upgrade your pickaxe, you are stuck to map1 to mine for 100 Diamonds 100 Copper and 100 Fossils... how is this going to push/motivate anyone to...

Even after the update that lowered the Pickaxe+ requirements, you'd still need to mine 3 hours a day, every day, for 158 days (about 5 months), to get to mine Beta ores - and roughly 2.5ish months to get to mine Heaven's Tear.
Yes, of course, let's look at the big picture - this effort will bring you what you need, as in the ability to mine and refine powerful ores.
But, let's be serious - 3 hours every single day for 3 months of mining, not searching for metin stones, dropping stuff, upgrading, selling. Of mining and refining low-tier ores to upgrade your pickaxe. Not to mention that the costs of refining ores, while small for the non-casual player, can add up when you need x100 of the same refined ore.
So how would even a non-casual player, but a new one, manage his playing time to both mine and earn the yang to support his refining endeavors?
In the end, what is WoM really about? Do we have multiple core systems available and have to choose one, in terms of income and economy - what game are we really playing?
3 months of effort with little to no return on investment for the most part.
Make it make sense.
In the context of this thread - how much do you think 1 event a month (because I don't see them agreeing to more) can help improve the rate of progress?
