Hello,

I wanted to play Metin for a long time now and I heard of this server from a friend.

I donwloaded the zip via Mega and I decided to pull the file into VirusTotal to see if it detects something. Sadly it does find 5 instances where it flags it as a trojan.

I did a scan with Windows Defender aswell, it doesn't detect anything.

At this point I don't know what to do. I'd rather be safe than sorry but I really want to play Metin...

Have you guys experienced this aswell, is this a known issue?

I tried to look for more information about this on the forum but didn't find anything helpful.

Thanks for help,

Hello Gragurantus,

Im here to help you.
I've been working as a developer for the past 10 years and during that time, I've gained a solid understanding of videogames. I’m quite familiar with the game mechanics and its overall structure. However, despite its nostalgic appeal to many players, I have to point out that Metin2 is not a well-optimized or safe game. Over the years, it has become known for security issues, with many players encountering harmful viruses or malware embedded in unofficial mods and even some private servers. Also the game is ****.

This can make it quite risky to engage with, especially if you're not using strong antivirus protection. I would recommend players be extremely cautious when downloading anything related to the game or interacting with third-party content.

I hope this information was helpful.

Best regards,

Hello,

i reported this issue to our dev team but before anything you can rest assured there's nothing malicious behind all this as i am speaking as one of the team members. Now, i dont know exactly what can be the issue with it to be detected as such but if possible it will be fixed so it does not appear anymore to scare anyone.

This is true 👇
Over the years, it has become known for security issues, with many players encountering harmful viruses or malware embedded in unofficial mods and even some private servers.
However, this is applicable to anything related to stuff downloaded from the internet, be it video game or not. Always take care and stay safe. 👇

We'll look into this asap. Thank you for report, we appreciate it.

Regards.

Hello,

The patcher file has been exactly the same for 12 years. It's in fact an official YMIR patcher from 2012, only with modified graphics. Since those graphics are stored in a ZIP file which is then concatenated to the end of the executable, you could run a program such as Bandizip to obtain the two original files: exe and zip. If you then upload the exe to virustotal you can see it was first uploaded in 2012 - that's before WoM even existed.
