Tanabata, also known as the Star Festival, is celebrated across Japan in early July or August, depending on the region. Inspired by the legend of two star-crossed lovers, the cosmic gods Hikoboshi and Orihime, it’s a time when streets come alive with colorful streamers, food stalls, fireworks and bamboo branches decorated with handwritten wishes. From small local events to major festivals like the Tanabata, it’s a beautiful season filled with summer magic, hope and celebration in East-Asian culture.
With that being said, we’ve decided to bring the same festive energy to WoM2 for another year! 🌟
Get ready for our own Tanabata Event, running from August 10th (11:00 CEST) to August 21st (23:59 CEST). Inspired by Japan’s vibrant Star Festival, this event will be filled with seasonal magic, celebration and surprises. Don’t miss out!
Important Note: All Tanabata items will be deleted after the event ends.
How does the Tanabata event work?
The stars have aligned! Ever wondered which townsperson is your secret admirer? Use a Tanabata Paper Strip to discover your mystery match! Track them down, exchange gifts, send secret Love Letters, and unlock sweet buffs and special loot. Exclusive costumes, magical compasses and romantic chaos await. Ready to chase fate across the map?
Slaughter monsters to drop your first Tanabata Paper Strip or visit Uriel in town if you're feeling a little lost in love (and loot).
You might also purchase it from the Item Mall or other players!
The Tanabata Paper Strip makes marriage items 25% more effective for 12 hours (50% if both characters use them) and triggers the main quest of the event.
Your level has to be 30 or more.
You may not repeat this quest again for the next 12 hours.
What's the quest about?
The quest consists in finding your admirer or “star-crossed lover” which is a random NPC.
If you find them, you will receive Maiden’s Token.
Maiden's Token is radiant token sealed with longing, earned by meeting with your Star-Crossed Lover. Open it to receive powerful buffs or rare treasures touched by fate.
You may find a plethora of items in this coffer, including our new Hikoboshi & Orihime Costumes and Hairstyles, Mooncrown, Heavenly Bride's Blessing and more.
How do I find my star-crossed lover?
If you're struggling, you might want to use the Tanabata Compass!
Tanabata Compass is a mystical compass infused with starlight. It guides you toward your Star-Crossed Lover, no matter how far the cosmos has pulled you apart.

New Costumes and Hairstyles

You may purchase these new costumes from the Item Mall or obtain them in-game by opening Maiden's Tokens.
Tanabata Love Letter
Send an anonymous message from the heart that grants both players a boost in speed and spirit.
For 12 hours, gain +20% More XP and +5% Critical Strike Boost.
How do I read my letters?
You can open your anonymous letters by clicking on the ~letters~ folder next to your minimap!
Hikoboshi Bouquet
A delicate, shimmering bouquet that lets you gather flowers throughout Tanabata. Burst it open at the end of Tanabata for a special reward, with greater treasures for fuller blooms!
Tanabata Package
A charming bundle of love and luck, packed with compasses, paper strips, love letters, a festive costume and a lucky charm to light your way through Tanabata.
Heavenly Bride’s Blessing
A shimmering charm of destined love. Wear it to gain temporary bonuses, perfect for lovers chasing fate across the stars.
Grants 15% Drop Chance and 10% Strong against Monsters for 4 hours.
