There were some recent discussions related to PvP changes and mages being weak againts melee characters, and I'm not here to suggest one thing or another as that's a very complex topic that requires both more community feedback as well as very careful testing and consideration as to not mess up things even more.
I brought that thread up as in there multiple people were complaining and mentioning the fact that one of the reason why fighting againts melee is so annyoing is the desyncing, or more what's called "bluetooth" hits. That's an issue where if you're attacked with melee attacks you're sort of perma-stunned, locked in, and this makes it so that you're unable to run away, and if you try to run away then you're sort of "brought back" by these issues.
The core problem of this is that the perspective of the attacker differs from what is actually happening from the perspective of the one being attacked. If you want to test this out just open two clients, and duel two characters, and then with one of them just click on the other character so that you'll auto attack, and with the other one don't do anything but just try to get away.
I really don't think there is much to discuss here as this is clearily a bug, and an issue in how the game processed or transmits the attacks to the server and then back to the other players.
Now I know this issue is relatively easy to describe, but (as a programmer myself also) I know that these sort of things CAN be very tricky or downright unsolvable depending on other connecting issues that might be related to this (basically spaghetti code). What I'd ask for myself and what I think lots of people would appreciate is that you have a look into this and see IF it can be easily solved.
If this can be easily solved then it would make PvP feel much greater as it's really no fun being stun-locked (even if you have stun immunity
