Dojang PvP – Novice, Intermediate & Master Subcategories

Hello everyone,

My suggestion is related to the Dojang PvP competition and the current level-based categories.

While having different level brackets is already a good system, I believe each level bracket could also have three additional subcategories: Novice, Intermediate and Master.

At the moment, two characters can belong to the same level category while having a massive difference in PvP equipment and overall strength.

For example, imagine a level 55 character with around 40% Sword Resistance, average equipment and a weapon with only a few PvP bonuses. That character would have almost no realistic chance against a level 59 character with full PvP equipment, optimized bonuses and high-end alchemy, even though both characters belong to the same level bracket.

Because of this, some players may not even consider participating in Dojang until they have an almost complete PvP setup.

My suggestion would be to divide each level bracket into:

  • Novice – players with basic or average PvP setups
  • Intermediate – players with more developed PvP setups
  • Master – players with highly optimized or full PvP setups
Of course, the exact criteria for Novice, Intermediate and Master would be up to the development team to decide. The main purpose of this suggestion is to create more balanced matchups, so that players with average PvP equipment are not constantly matched against fully optimized PvP characters within the same level bracket.

The goal is not to make PvP easier, but to make Dojang more accessible and competitive for different stages of character progression.

This could encourage more players to participate, including newer players and those who are still working on their PvP equipment. At the same time, fully optimized characters would still have the opportunity to compete against other strong characters in the Master category.

In my opinion, this could result in more participants, fairer fights and a more enjoyable Dojang experience overall.

Hi, just for your information, a similar system already exists based on Elo-rated fights.
I personally dislike this system, as do many others. The main issue is that the higher your Elo rating gets, the fewer suitable opponents are available. Fewer possible opponents means fewer fights, and fewer fights mean fewer opportunities to earn points for your dojang.
So, in practice, it can create the opposite effect of what the system should achieve: the better you perform and the higher your rating becomes, the fewer chances you have to compete and collect points.
